Scherer, 29, registered a career-high 17 goals and 11 assists for 28 points in 58 games for the Stingrays last season and one goal in four Kelly Cup playoff contests.Since joining the Stingrays as a rookie for the 2007-08 campaign, the Seattle, Washington native recorded 107 points (57g, 50a) in 247 games and 12 goals and six assists for 18 points in 45 postseason games. On January 7, 2010, Scherer became the seventh team captain in Stingrays history. Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot, 195-pound forward spent four years at the University of Connecticut compiling 105 points (62g, 43a) in 138 NCAA games. Scherer also spent four seasons in the United States Hockey League (USHL) tallying 30 goals and 20 assists for 50 points in 164 games for Sioux City and Tri-City.
