Stingrays Lose Heartbreaker to Lynx

Augusta, GA – The South Carolina Stingrays lost their first away game in Augusta, GA on a game winning goal with less than a minute to play in regulation.

The first period featured the Stingrays trailing for the first time this season, when
Igor Pohanka slipped one passed goaltender Josh Johnson to give the Lynx a 1-0 lead. But the lead would not last through the 1st period. The Stingrays made sure to play all 20 minutes and scored at 19:37 to knot things up at 1. Nate Kiser picked up his 1st goal of the season on a wicked slap shot with assists from Pierre-Luc O’Brien and Tommy Maxwell.

Early in the 2nd period the Stingrays took a 2-1 lead when
Steve Pinizzotto would score his first goal of the season, a power play goal, at 1:02. Assisting on the goals were Paul McIlveen and Travis Morin. That goal would hold up through the 2nd period as after 40 minutes of play, the Stingrays held a goal lead.

In the 3rd period the Stingrays were hit by an early goal, and a late goal. Just 1:38 into the period, the Lynx tied the game up at 2, and at 19:04, they scored a power play goal to take the lead for good.
John Laliberte scored his 1st goal of the season with an assist from Pohanka after a scramble in front of goaltender Josh Johnson, making his first start between the pipes this season. The Rays pulled Johnson in favor of the extra attacker for the final minute of the game, but were unable to push one passed Nathan Marsters, in goal for the Lynx.

Johnson got the loss for the Stingrays and while making 23 saves on 26 shots. The winning goaltender was Marsters who made 22 saves on 24 shots. On special teams, the Rays went 1-8, and now have 3 power play goals on the season. They killed off 7 of 8 short handed situations.
