North Charleston, SC – The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Cail MacLean announced today that goaltender Todd Ford and defenseman Joe Finley have been assigned to the team by the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.
Ford, 26, appeared in one game this season with the Stingrays going 0-1-0 with a goals-against average of 8.32 and a .643 save percentage. Last season, the Calgary, AB native went 18-7-2 with the Stingrays and ranked fifth in the ECHL with a 2.79 goals-against average and second with a .910 save percentage. A third round draft pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Ford was named the 2010 ECHL Goaltender of the Year, voted a starting goaltender in the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game and was selected to the First Team All-ECHL team. While with the Bears, Ford skated in two games going 1-0-0 with a 3.27 GAA and a .870 save percentage.
Finley, 23, dressed in seven games for the Bears earning one assist and 15 penalty minutes. Last season, the Edina, MN native competed in 17 contests with the Stingrays netting a goal and three assists for four points. Drafted by the Washington Capitals in the first round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Finley patrolled the blue lines for the University of North Dakota alongside fellow Stingrays defenseman Zach Jones for four years. While with the Fighting Sioux, Finley tallied 35 points (7g, 28a) in 154 games.
The Stingrays open a three-game in three-night home weekend on Friday, November 19 against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. Bring the family out for 100.9 Way FM Family Friday. The two teams square off again on Saturday, November 20 at 7:05 p.m. for Epilepsy Awareness Night.
