North Charleston, SC – The Kelly Cup Champion South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach / Director of Hockey Operations Cail MacLean announced today that the team has received goaltender Braden Holtby from the Hershey Bears of the AHL.
Holtby, 20, earned a 2-1-0 record and a 1.01 goals-against average in three games with Hershey. The Loydminster, SK native was the 93rd overall draft pick by the Washington Capitals in 2008. Holtby played alongside former Stingrays goaltender Michal Neuvirth during the 2009 Calder Cup playoffs.
Prior to turning pro, Holtby spent four seasons with Saskatoon of the WHL. While with the Blades, the 6-foot-1, 202-pound goalie aquired an 82-75-15 record in 177 games played. A right-handed shot, Holtby had a career best 2.62 GAA in 2008-2009.
