Stingrays Fight Back to Defeat Everblades 4-3

North Charleston, SC – The South Carolina Stingrays (29-21-1-1) erased a three-goal deficit to defeat the Florida Everblades (23-21-2-4) 4-3 Monday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.

After a scoreless opening period, defenseman Charles Landry gave the Everblades the first lead of the night 43 seconds into the second frame tapping a pass from forward Matt Beca past the right leg of Stingrays goaltender Philipp Grubauer(W, 24 saves on 27 shots). Forward Brayden Irwin grabbed the second assist. Forward Mathieu Roy made it 2-0 on the power play at 7:11 from forward Alex Hutchings and defenseman David Fischer. Moments later, defenseman Mike Ratchuk lit the lamp shorthanded for a three-goal advantage at 9:33 with help from forward Rylan Galiardi.

Forward Matt Scherer put the Stingrays on the board late in the period firing a shot past the right leg of Everblades goalie Shane Owen (L, 46 saves on 50 shots) at 18:08 from the bottom of the left-wing circle. Forward Josh Turnbull and defenseman Derek Keller added the assists.

Forward Trent Campbell pulled the game within one at 3:25 of the final period from forward Pierre-Luc O’Brien and defenseman Nick Tabisz. Defenseman Zach Tarkir knotted up the contest on power play at 7:47 from O’Brien and forward David de Kastrozza. Forward Maxime Lacroix completed the comeback and buried the game-winning goal at 10:22 beating Owen over the right pad off a rebound. Campbell received the lone assist. With three seconds left in the game, Everblades forward David Rutherford was awarded a penalty shot, but lifted the puck over the crossbar. The Stingrays finished 1-for-7 on the power play while the Everblades went 1-for-6.

The Stingrays kickoff a three-game road trip against the Everblades Wednesday, February 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Germain Arena and return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday, February 25 against the Gwinnett Gladiators for the sixth annual Pink in the Rink presented by East Cooper Medical Center benefitting Susan G. Komen Lowcountry.
