NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.-Vitek Vanecek stopped 21 shots to lead the South Carolina Stingrays to a 2-0 win over the Florida Everblades Tuesday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. The rookie goaltender recorded his first professional shutout in just his sixth professional appearance and was named the game's first star.

The Everblades, who scored seven goals Sunday in Greenville, peppered Vanecek with 11 shots in the first period, including five shots in the opening minutes of the game. The 19-year-old goaltender stood tall with several key saves, including robbing Florida forward Jon DiSalvatore on a rebound chance from the slot.
It took until the 16:16 mark of the second period, but the Stingrays finally gave Vanecek a lead to work with. Colin Mulvey scored his first goal with the Stingrays on a broken play to give South Carolina a 1-0 lead. The play was started by South Carolina forward Max Sauve who appeared to have a breakaway. Sauve fell down, but the play continued. David Pacan fired a shot on net that Florida goaltender Anthony Peters stopped. The puck sat loose for Mulvey who capitalized on the rebound.
Both goaltenders were strong in the third period with Peters stopping 10 Florida shots. The Everblades would pull Peters with under a minute to play, but Joey Leach notched his second empty net goal of the season to give South Carolina a 2-0 lead at 19:18.
The Stingrays outshot the Everblades 25-21 on the evening. Both teams failed to convert on the power play. South Carolina was 0-for-5 while Florida was 0-for-3.
The Stingrays remain at home for three games this weekend. The club hosts Elmira on Friday, November 6. That evening is a Rays 4 Pack Game, featuring 4 tickets, 4 sodas, 4 hot dogs and 1 large popcorn for just $65! The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.  Ticket information is available at
