Stingrays Sign Kelly Zajac

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.-The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), have agreed to terms with forward Kelly Zajac, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today.

Zajac, 27, brings 122 games of American Hockey League (AHL) experience to South Carolina. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound forward spent parts of three seasons with the Albany Devils of the AHL from 2012-15. He scored a career best 44 points (12 goals, 32 assists) in 67 games during the 2013-14 campaign.

Zajac skated in 14 games with Manitoba Moose of the AHL this season, notching one assist. Zajac has scored 62 points (17 goals, 45 assists) in his AHL career. The native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, also appeared in 15 ECHL games with the Trenton Titans during the 2012-13 season, tallying 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) in 15 games. 

Zajac played his NCAA hockey at Union College, scoring 128 points (37 goals, 91 assists) in 159 games over four seasons. He helped Union to an ECAC regular season championship in 2011-12, and was an ECAC Third Team member that year, and an ECAC Second Team member in 2010-11. 

The forward comes from a hockey family. His father Tom played collegiate hockey at the University of Denver. He also has three brothers who play hockey, including Travis, 30, who is an alternate captain for the New Jersey Devils. Older brother Darcy, 29, plays overseas in Demark, while younger brother Nolan, 23, is a defenseman at the University of Denver. 

Zajac has joined the Stingrays and will wear #19.

The Stingrays visit Greenville for a pair of games at 7 p.m. this Friday and Saturday. The club returns home to battle the Swamp Rabbits on Sunday for Mascot Mania at 3:05 p.m. It's a Crews Subaru and Charleston County Parks Family Days game, featuring $5 Kids Tickets and $5 Kids Meals.
