NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. –The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry and proud ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), agreed to terms with defenseman Nick Jones, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today.

"We are extremely excited to bring Nick into the organization," Carbery said. "We saw him play a few games last year with Indy and his ability stood out in those games. We're looking forward to helping him develop and contribute in his second pro season."

Jones, 25, split time with the Indy Fuel and Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League (AHL) last season. With the Fuel, Jones scored 24 points (seven goals, 17 assists) and registered a plus-minus rating of +10 in 45 games. He also appeared in 14 games with Worcester, notching two assists.

"I have heard nothing but good things about the Stingrays," Jones said. "It is a classy organization that treats its players well, and Charleston is once of the best cities in the country. The high level of play that Coach Carbery expects excites me, and between that, and what I know about the area, it was a no-brainier for me to decide to sign with South Carolina."

The native of Cranberry, Pa. spent his NCAA career as a standout at Mercyhurst College for four seasons. During his senior year in 2013-2014, Jones registered 33 points (10 goals, 23 assists) in 41 games, earning him a spot on the Atlantic Hockey All-Conference First Team. He also claimed the conference's Best Defenseman award.

"I would consider myself a two-way defenseman," Jones said. "I can jump into the play and join the rush late. I pride myself on being a solid player in both zones and someone that the coach can count on in all situations to help the team win."

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Jones also appeared in two games with Worcester and four playoff games with the Ontario Reign of the ECHL following the conclusion of his NCAA career in 2014.
