Stingrays Sign Defenseman Mitch Nylen To ATOMar 30, 2017
The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Washington Capitals and AHL’s Hershey Bears, have announced the signing of defenseman Mitch Nylen to an amateur tryout contract Friday. The native of Lawrenceville, Ga. played four seasons of college hockey at Sacred Heart University in the Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA) from 2013-17.
During the 2016-17 season with the Pioneers Nylen served as team captain while suiting up for 37 games and scoring 19 points on five goals and 14 assists. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound blueliner was also a nominee for the Hobey Baker Award, given to the top player in Division I college hockey and was named AHA Defensive Player of the Week on Dec. 13.
In four seasons with Sacred Heart, the defenseman played in a total of 141 games and scored 60 points (12 goals, 48 assists).
Before his time at school, Nylen played three seasons of high school hockey at the Brooks School in North Andover, Mass. and was also a member of the Neponset Valley River Rats U18 team that won the 2013 USA Hockey Tier 1 U18 National Championship.
The Stingrays are home for a crucial weekend series with the Orlando Solar Bears on Friday and Sunday. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. on Friday night, while Sunday’s game begins at 3:05.
