Stingrays Agree to Terms with Marcus PerrierJul 13, 2016
The South Carolina Stingrays, proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals, have agreed to terms with forward/defenseman Marcus Perrier, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Ryan Warsofsky announced today.
"We're thrilled to bring Marcus back," said Warsofsky. "He is another big part of our team. He is a great person, which is first and foremost for us. On the ice, he throws the body and his weight around. He played forward and defense for us last year and brings that toughness element. He's known around the league for what he's done in his first two seasons."
Perrier, 24, returns for his third season with the Stingrays. The Thunder Bay, Ontario native proved to be a versatile player for South Carolina last season, playing both forward and defense. He enjoyed a career year, scoring 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists) to go along with 174 penalty minutes in 58 games. He also appeared in 19 playoff games, scoring two points (one goal, one assist).
"I'm excited to return because I love it down in Charleston," said Perrier. "It's a great organization. The coaching staff has been a big part of my success. Spencer Carbery helped me so much, and Ryan Warfosky was right there with him. I'm excited to work with Ryan as he has a lot of trust from myself and the players. We got to Game 7 of the Kelly Cup Finals my rookie year, and Game 7 of the Conference Finals last year, so it feels like we have unfinished business. I'm excited to come back for another shot at the Kelly Cup."
In addition to a breakout season on the ice, Perrier also played a large role in the community. He was named the recipient of the team's 2016 Jerry Zucker Community Service Award for his dedication to the Lowcountry community. He attended over 25 community events during the 2015-16 season.
In total, Perrier has scored 40 points (16 goals, 24 assists) in 124 career games in South Carolina. He helped South Carolina to an ECHL-record 23-game win streak and an appearance in the 2015 Kelly Cup Finals during his rookie season. Perrier joined the Stingrays after three seasons at Bowling Green State University, and three seasons with the Sioux Falls Stampede of the United States Hockey League (USHL).
