Stingrays Re-Sign Forward Derek DeBlois
Third-Year Skater Continuing To Rehab Lower Body InjuryNov 19, 2016
The South Carolina Stingrays, proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals, have announced the signing of forward Derek DeBlois Saturday. Back with the Stingrays for his third season, the native of Narragansett, R.I. will immediately be placed on 21-day injured reserve as he continues rehabbing a lower body injury sustained with the Rays last year.
DeBlois played 23 games last year with South Carolina, splitting his time between the Rays and the American Hockey League (AHL) and the Lake Erie Monsters. The 25-year-old had 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists) with the Stingrays and five points (three goals, two assists) in 35 games with Lake Erie.
During his rookie season in 2014-15, DeBlois played in 59 games with the Rays, scoring 45 points (21 goals, 24 assists). He also appeared in 27 playoff contests, accounting for 29 points (11 goals, 18 assists).
Before turning pro, the forward played four seasons at the University of Michigan from 2010-2014 and appeared in 141 games while registering 61 points (24 goals, 37 points).
Before his time at school, DeBlois played prep school hockey at The Hotchkiss School in Connecticut and spent one year in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders during the 2009-10 season.
South Carolina hosts the Colorado Eagles tonight at the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
