Carlson Makes 28 Saves For South Carolina In Losing EffortNov 12, 2016
The Orlando Solar Bears got out to a lead in the second period and held on to defeat the South Carolina Stingrays 3-0 at the Amway Center Saturday night.
Goaltender Adam Carlson made a total of 28 saves for the Stingrays in defeat, while forward Patrick Gaul and defenseman Colton Saucerman each had a game-high five shots on net for South Carolina. Orlando’s Kasimir Kaskisuo recorded the shutout, making 24 saves.
The Stingrays got off to a good start in the first period, outshooting the Solar Bears 13-8 in the opening frame, but failed to get the puck past Kaskisuo. The teams went into the first intermission still in a scoreless draw.
Orlando took the lead at 13:20 of the second on a goal by defenseman Jon Jutzi. Assists went to forwards Johnny McInnis and T.J. Foster.
In the third period, the Solar Bears extended their lead to 2-0 with a power play goal by forward Joe Perry at 13:11. With the Stingrays unable to respond, Orlando forward Tony Cameranesi finished the scoring with an empty net goal with six seconds remaining on the clock.
The Stingrays finished 0-of-2 on the man-advantage in the game, while Orlando was 1-for-3. The Solar Bears outshot South Carolina 31-24 in the game.
The two teams will meet for a third time in four days on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. The Stingrays return home on Thursday, November 17 to battle the Colorado Eagles.
