North Charleston, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry and proud ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that Joseph Zakrzewski, the Director of Communications and Broadcasting, has accepted an identical position with the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League (AHL).
“On behalf of the South Carolina Stingrays and owners, we could not be more happy and proud of Joey,” said Stingrays President Rob Concannon. “We knew this day would be coming sooner rather than later. His passion for our product is unbelievable. Personally, I cannot list all of the work he has done for our organization and we are in a better place because of it. Joey wore many hats with us. He was our backup goalie, social media and website manager, designed specialty jerseys, called games and never said no to a task. I will miss him on a daily basis and I wish him nothing but the best.”
Over the last six seasons, Zakrzewski served as the play-by-play broadcaster for the Stingrays and directed team’s public relations, website and social media campaigns. Following the 2012-13 season, he earned the ECHL Broadcaster of the Year award after being nominated in 2011 and 2012 and was a member of the ECHL All-Star broadcast team for the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition in Ontario, California. The Stingrays’ website,, was a finalist for the ECHL Website of the Year award earlier this summer.
“Joseph brings a wealth of experience to Ontario,” Reign President and former Stingrays President and Broadcaster Darren Abbott mentioned. “Our fans will appreciate his passion and skill on the radio while we will appreciate putting his many other talents to work with our front office team.”
Prior to joining the Stingrays, Zakrzewski began his career as the Broadcasting Assistant for the Houston Aeros of the AHL and Broadcaster of the Battle Creek Bombers baseball team of the Northwoods League.
“I cannot express how grateful I am to the Stingrays organization, President Concannon and the Zucker family for six incredible seasons” added Zakrzewski. “They are family. I’ve had the honor to be a part some amazing moments in Stingrays and ECHL history and the fans made me feel at home. I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunities the Stingrays afforded me and the relationships I’ve build in the Lowcountry.”
