Stingrays Open Preseason in Alaska

Stingrays Announce Preseason Trip To Alaska

Aug 12, 2016

For the first time since winning the Kelly Cup in 2009, the South Carolina Stingrays are headed to Alaska. The organization announced today that the team will travel to Anchorage, Alaska for a preseason trip in October that includes three exhibition games versus the Alaska Aces.

"At our league meetings in Las Vegas, Alaska approached us with the idea," said Stingrays President Rob Concannon. "I spoke to Head Coach Ryan Warsofsky, and we thought this would be a great opportunity for the players as we prepare for the 2016-17 season. Training Camp is an important time, and being able to play three games against someone different will be a good measuring stick. Plus, the players will have the chance to explore a beautiful part of our country and enjoy all that Alaska has to offer."

The Stingrays' trip to "The Last Frontier" will take place from October 9-14 and will help the team bond and build chemistry prior to the start of the regular season. South Carolina will play the Aces in preseason play on Monday, October 10, Tuesday, October 11, and Thursday, October 13 at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage. The puck will drop at 11:15 p.m. Eastern Time (7:15 p.m. local time) for each contest. All three preseason games are slated to be broadcast via Mixlr at StingraysHockey.com as the Voice of the Stingrays, Zack Fisch, will have the call from Alaska.

Both the Stingrays and Aces are two of the ECHL's most decorated teams, with three Kelly Cup titles each. This isn't the first time the Stingrays have traveled to Alaska during the preseason. The club also headed north prior to the 2008-09 season. The two teams met later that season in the 2009 Kelly Cup Finals in a series that went seven games, and saw the Stingrays capture their third championship. More recently, the two clubs met twice last season in January at the North Charleston Coliseum.

While the Stingrays will not host a preseason game this season, the club is expected to hold an event for Season Ticket Holders prior to the team departing for Alaska. Details will be made available at a later date.

The Stingrays' 24th season in the Lowcountry starts on October 22. 2016-17 Season Ticket Packages are on sale now featuring discounted pricing and great benefits! For more information, fans may call the Stingrays' offices at 843-744-2248 or visit StingraysHockey.com.
