Gustafsson played in 10 games with Hershey at the end of the 2016-17 season after signing with the Capitals and had two assists as well as a +4 rating. Before turning pro, the forward played at Merrimack College in the Hockey East and scored 87 points on 38 goals and 49 assists in 146 games.

Defenseman Paul Geiger has also been recalled by the Bears and will return to the AHL for the second time this season. The Stouffville, Ont. native recently had three assists in the Rays’ win over Greenville on Tuesday night and has accumulated 26 points (eight goals, 18 assists) in 45 ECHL contests this season.

Geiger appeared in four contests while in Hershey after his first recall on Oct. 31, posting one assist and five shots on goal. Before the ECHL trade deadline Thursday, South Carolina completed a swap with Orlando, sending forward Robbie Baillargeon to the Solar Bears in exchange for future considerations. The rookie skater suited up for 21 games with the Rays and contributed nine assists along with eight penalty minutes.

South Carolina is home for three games this weekend beginning Friday night against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at 7:05 p.m.
