Stingrays Announce 2017 Training Camp RosterOct 2, 2017
The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Washington Capitals and AHL’s Hershey Bears, have announced the club’s initial roster to begin training camp.
The roster features 28 total players, including 17 forwards, nine defenders, and two goaltenders. Among the squad are 11 returning skaters that suited up for South Carolina during the 2016-17 season that included a run to the Kelly Cup Finals.
Hershey announced the reduction of its training camp roster Sunday, reassigning four players to South Carolina: Dylan Margonari (F), Tim McGauley (F), Kelly Zajac (F) and Paul Geiger (D).
In addition, the Bears released three SC contracted players who have returned to the Rays in Taylor Cammarata (F), Andrew Cherniwchan (F) and Frankie Simonelli (D).
Also released from Hershey was rookie forward Stephen Collins, who has signed a standard professional contract with the Stingrays and will report to training camp wearing No. 40. The 26-year-old Rochester, N.Y. native recently completed a four-year collegiate career with SUNY-Geneseo where he piled up 137 points (59 goals, 78 assists) in 114 games.
Collins also received an invite and participated in Washington Capitals training camp this fall. Before Geneseo, the 6-foot, 190-pound forward played one year of ACHA hockey at Arizona State and spent three seasons in the USHL from 2009-12 with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Youngstown Phantoms.
South Carolina has also announced the signing of forward Thanvir Bandesha to a tryout agreement. Forward John Parker did not report to camp and has been placed on team suspension.
The initial Training Camp Roster is below and is subject to change. The full roster can be viewed HERE. Additional players participating in National Hockey League (NHL) or American Hockey League (AHL) camps can be added to the roster at a later date once assigned.
The Stingrays hit the ice and begin their first practice on Tuesday, October 3 at 10:30 a.m. at the Carolina Ice Palace. A complete training camp schedule is available HERE.
