Stingrays Add Forward Johnston in Strade with MissouriOct 14, 2015

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.- The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), have acquired forward Andrew Johnston in a trade with the Missouri Mavericks for future considerations.
Johnston, 24, joins the Stingrays for his fourth professional season. The 6-foot-1, 178-pound winger split time last season with the Reading Royals and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League (AHL). With Reading, Johnston scored 20 points (six goals, 14 assists) in 42 regular season games, and skated in seven playoff games versus the Stingrays, scoring four points. He had one assist in 14 games in the AHL.
The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native has also spent time in the ECHL with the Trenton Titans (2012-2013) and the Orlando Solar Bears (2013-2014) while appearing in games with the AHL affiliates of the Philadelphia Flyers in Adirondack and Lehigh Valley.
Johnston will wear #26 for the Stingrays. The club also announced that forward Pete Massar, claimed off waivers from Indy on Sunday, will wear #23, and defenseman Joey Leach will switch to #17.
The Stingrays open the regular season on Saturday, October 17 versus the Reading Royals at 7:05 p.m. The Stingrays are hosting Mother Emanuel AME Church Family Night honoring the "Charleston 12" impacted in the June church shooting. Survivors of the incident will be on hand, and the Stingrays will wear special Charleston Strong jerseys that will be auctioned off online with proceeds going to the children of the victims. The night also features a Magnetic Schedule Giveaway to the first 5,000 fans courtesy of Savage Law Firm and FREE parking, as well as an Alumni Game at 2 p.m. Tickets are for sale via Ticketmaster or at the North Charleston Coliseum Box Office.
