North Charleston, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry, signed goaltender David Jacobson to a tryout agreement, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today.
Jacobson, 24, went 12-2-1 with a 1.59 goals-against average and .924 save percentage in 16 games last season in his senior year at St. Norbert College before suffering a season-ending injury in February. During his junior campaign, the Janesville, Wisconsin, native led the Green Nights to a NCAA Division III title with a 24-1-1 record, career-best 1.26 goals-against average and .936 save percentage and was named the winner of Sid Watson Award as the best Division III men’s ice hockey player.
As a freshman, Jacobson won the starting role in January of 2012 and went 14-1-1 (19-2-3 overall), helping the Green Nights erase a 7-4-4 start and grab the NCAA Division III championship. Jacobson earned second team All-American honors and the 2012 NCAA Frozen Four Most Outstanding Player.
