Stingrays Acquire Salhany From RoyalsDec 5, 2017
The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Washington Capitals and AHL’s Hershey Bears, have completed a trade with the Reading Royals to acquire forward Matt Salhany in exchange for defenseman Nick Neville.
Salhany, 24, began his professional career with Reading at the end of the 2016-17 season and has played a total of eight ECHL games for the Royals, scoring one goal. The native of Warwick, R.I. played collegiately at the University of Alabama-Huntsville from 2013-17, appearing in a total of 137 games while scoring 43 points (17 goals, 26 assists).
During his senior season with UAH, Salhany served as an alternate captain and led the team’s senior class in scoring with seven goals and 13 points. The 5-foot-10, 179-pound forward was also named to the WCHA All-Academic Team during the 2013-14 season.
Neville suited up for three games with South Carolina since signing on Nov. 22. The blueliner played 18 games for the Stingrays during his rookie season in 2016-17 and posted two assists.
