ESTERO, F.L.-Anthony Peters stopped all 22 South Carolina shots he faced, and Justin Agosta scored the game-winning goal on the power play with under eight minutes to play to lead the Florida Everblades to 2-0 win over the South Carolina Stingrays Friday at Germain Arena.
The two teams took a scoreless tie into the third period. At the 11:02 mark, South Carolina's Nick Jones was assessed a holding penalty. Florida was finally able to break the scoreless tie with a power play goal. Kevin Lynch fired a cross-ice pass to Agosta on the left-side of the ice. The defenseman lifted a shot up, and over, a sliding South Carolina goaltender Vitek Vanecek to give Florida a 1-0 lead. Matt Marquardt also assisted on the goal.
South Carolina would pull Vanecek late in the game for an extra attacker, but could not solve Peters. Marquardt would add an empty net goal to seal the win for Florida with 4.1 seconds remaining.
The Stingrays hit the goal post twice in the first 10 minutes of the game, but neither team could find the back on the net in the first two periods. South Carolina was shut out for the second time this season.
The Stingrays outshot the Everblades 22-17 on the evening.
