Monardo Returns To Stingrays For Playoff PushApr 3, 2017
The Hershey Bears, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the South Carolina Stingrays, have announced the reassignment of forward Domenic Monardo to South Carolina on Monday.
Monardo was the hottest Stingrays' player during the month of February before being recalled to Hershey on March 2, scoring 19 points on eight goals and 11 assists with a +4 rating in a 14-game span. In a total of 40 appearances with South Carolina this year, Monardo has 31 points (11 goals, 20 assists) which is tied for fifth-best on the team.
The 28-year-old Oakville, Ont. native has also played in 11 games with the Bears this season, registering three assists.
During the 2015-16 year, Monardo suited up in 44 games for the AHL’s Springfield Falcons where he scored 13 points (eight goals, five assists). Before turning pro, the forward played four years at Lake Superior State University from 2009-13. Monardo appeared in 153 career games with the Lakers, scoring 101 points (49 goals, 52 assists).
In a separate transaction, the Stingrays have also released defenseman Mitch Nylen from an amateur tryout contract. Nylen appeared in two contests for South Carolina against the Orlando Solar Bears on Friday and Sunday.
The Stingrays have three games remaining in the final week of the ECHL’s regular season, starting on Wednesday night on the road vs. the Atlanta Gladiators. South Carolina returns home to face Atlanta on Friday before squaring off with Cincinnati on Saturday. Both remaining home games begin at 7:05 p.m.
