Milner Re-Signs With Hershey For 2017-18Jul 11, 2017
The Hershey Bears, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the South Carolina Stingrays, announced the re-signing of goaltender Parker Milner to a one-year contract for the 2017-18 season on Tuesday.
Milner is coming off a career year, playing 43 regular season games with South Carolina before taking the team on a run to the Kelly Cup Finals during the postseason. The netminder played all 22 playoff games for the Rays and was among the ECHL league leaders in all categories including a goals against average of 2.30, a save percentage at 0.919 and three shutouts.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Milner had a record of 26-14-0 during the 2016-17 ECHL regular season, while making over 1,000 saves for the second time in his career and tying career highs in wins and games played. The goaltender will begin his fifth professional season this fall.
Milner, 26, was recalled to Hershey twice last year and played in a total of five AHL games with the Bears, going 3-2-0 with a goals against average of 2.84 and a save percentage at 0.913.
During the 2015-16 season, Milner split his time between the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL) and the Missouri Mavericks (ECHL). He played in six AHL games with Bridgeport, while appearing in 26 contests for Missouri with a goals against of 2.17 and a save percentage at 0.925.
The 6-foot-1, 187-pound goalie played collegiately at Boston College from 2009-13 and helped lead the Eagles to three Hockey East titles and two NCAA Championships. He was named the MVP of the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
South Carolina opens its 25th anniversary season in front of their home fans at the North Charleston Coliseum on Oct. 20 against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at 7:05 p.m.
