The Hershey Bears announced Tuesday that defenseman Tommy Hughes has been returned on loan to the South Carolina Stingrays. The blueliner suited up in four games with the Bears after being recalled on Nov. 21 and registered two penalty minutes.

Hughes is in his fifth pro season after spending his first four years in the AHL with the Hartford Wolf Pack. He began the year with the Rays and played in six games, posting one assist and a +1 rating.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound defenseman has appeared in 230 career AHL games, registering 30 points (five goals, 25 assists). Hughes skated in 53 games with Hartford in 2016-17, tallying five assists. The native of London, Ontario played for his hometown London Knights of the OHL for parts of four seasons before signing with the New York Rangers as an undrafted free agent in 2013.

Hughes will join the team this week before a trip to Greenville for a meeting with the Swamp Rabbits on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Stingrays are back at home Friday night against Atlanta at 7:05.
