NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.- The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that forward Caleb Herbert has been reassigned to the Stingrays from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Herbert, a fifth round selection of the Capitals in the 2010 NHL Draft, returns to the Stingrays after appearing in 42 games with the club last season. In his rookie season, Herbert notched 28 points (19 goals, nine assists) with South Carolina. He also helped the Stingray to the Kelly Cup Finals scoring 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) in 27 games.
After skating in 12 games with Hershey last season, Herbert made the Bears roster this season. In 23 games this season, Herbert notched two assists with Hershey.
The native of Bloomington, Minn. signed with the Capitals following three seasons at the University of Minnesota-Duluth where he scored 89 points (32 goals, 57 assists) in 112 games. Prior to college, he played a year of junior hockey for the Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) where he scored 50 points in 51 games and was an All-Star during the 2010-11 season.
Herbert has joined the team in Wichita and is eligible to play this weekend. He will wear #3 for the Stingrays.
