Gustafsson Re-Assigned To StingraysDec 12, 2017
The Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL) announced Tuesday that forward Hampus Gustafsson has been re-assigned to the South Carolina Stingrays. The 24-year-old attacker has played in 14 games with the Stingrays’ AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears this year during his rookie season, assisting on two goals.
Gustafsson, a native of Ljungby, Sweden, played in 10 games with Hershey at the end of the 2016-17 season after signing with the Capitals and also had two assists as well as a +4 rating upon finishing a 4-year career at Merrimack College.
While with Merrimack, the 6-foot-4, 200-pound forward scored 87 points on 38 goals and 49 assists in 146 games. In 2016-17, his senior season, Gustafsson led the Warriors in goals (15), ranked second in points (26) and finished fourth in assists (11). He was a nominee for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award and served as an alternate captain during his junior and senior year.
Before enrolling in college, Gustafsson played junior hockey for the Amarillo Bulls of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and helped lead the team to the league’s championship, winning the Robertson Cup in 2013. The forward registered 10 goals and 27 points in 35 regular season games during the 2012-13 season.
The Stingrays are set for a 3-game road series with the Florida Everblades this week which begins Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
