Geiger Returns To Rays, Hughes Recalled By Hershey

The Hershey Bears announced two moves involving the club’s defensemen on Tuesday, recalling Tommy Hughes to Hershey and re-assigning Paul Geiger to the South Carolina Stingrays.

Geiger appeared in four contests while in Hershey after being recalled on Oct. 31, posting one assist and five shots on goal. He began the season with South Carolina and played in the team’s first four games of the year, scoring a power play goal and an assist while posting a +2 rating.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound blueliner is in his second professional season and spent his rookie campaign with the Rochester Americans last season, skating in 49 AHL games and compiling nine points (three goals, six assists.

A 25-year-old native of Stouffville, Ontario, Geiger played four seasons of NCAA hockey at Clarkson University prior to turning pro and was an ECAC All-Rookie Team member in 2012-13, as well as being selected to the ECAC Hockey Third-Team All-Star in 2015-16. He served as team captain his junior and senior seasons and posted 51 points (13 goals, 38 assists) in 150 career NCAA games.

Hughes is in his fifth pro season after spending his first four years in the AHL with the Hartford Wolf Pack. He has played in six games with the Stingrays to begin his season, posting one assist and a +1 rating.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound defenseman has appeared in 226 career AHL games, registering 30 points (five goals, 25 assists). Hughes skated in 53 games with Hartford in 2016-17, tallying five assists. The native of London, Ontario played for his hometown London Knights of the OHL for parts of four seasons before signing with the New York Rangers as an undrafted free agent in 2013.

South Carolina next travels to Atlanta for a Thanksgiving Day matchup with the Gladiators on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. The Stingrays return to the North Charleston Coliseum on to host the Orlando Solar Bears on Dec. 2 at 7:05 p.m.
