NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.-Goaltender C.J. Motte stopped 32 shots to lead to the Elmira Jackals to a 2-0 win over the South Carolina Stingrays Friday at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Stingrays, looking to win their third straight game, outshot the Jackals 32-24 on the evening but Elmira's rookie goaltender kept South Carolina's offense off the board.

The Jackals scored only 5:50 into the game on a goal from Tyler Currier. Elmira broke up ice on a odd-man rush. Currier led the rush, and elected to fire a shot towards the goal from just inside the blue line. Stingrays goaltender Vitek Vanecek was unable to track the shot, and it beat him over the blocker. The goal was unassisted and was Currier's third goal of the season.

The Stingrays missed an opportunity to tie the game early in the second period when they were awarded a major power play. Spiro Goulakos was given a match penalty for an illegal hit to the head on South Carolina forward Max Sauve. Goulakos was ejected from the game, but South Carolina was unable to convert on the power play.

Elmira would strike on a power play of its own at 18:23 of the second period. Mike Seidel was credited with the goal on a deflection. Zach Tolkinen fired a slap shot from the point that was redirected in front off of Seidel's body for his fourth goal of the season to make it 2-0.

The Stingrays pepped Motte in the third period with 13 shots, but the goaltender earned his first win of the season and his first professional shutout. South Carolina was shutout for the third time this year.

The two teams meet again tomorrow at the North Charleston Coliseum at 7:05 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the North Charleston Coliseum Box Office or online via Ticketmaster. For more information, fans may call the Stingrays at 843-744-2248 or visit StingraysHockey.com
