Eagles Defeat Stingrays 4-2 In First Ever Meeting

Gacek, Flick Each Score For South Carolina In Defeat

The Colorado Eagles scored twice in both the second and third periods to defeat the South Carolina Stingrays by a score of 4-2 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Thursday night.

Stingrays forwards Alex Gacek and Rob Flick each had goals in the game for South Carolina, while Steven McParland and Daniel Federico picked up assists and Parker Milner made 26 saves in net.

Gacek got the scoring going in the first period, putting a wrist shot past Colorado goaltender Nathan Lieuwen at 10:37 of the opening frame to give the Rays a 1-0 lead. By recording the assist, McParland is now tied for the team lead in scoring with nine points.

South Carolina took their advantage into the first intermission, despite being outshot by the Eagles 11-9 in the opening frame. But Colorado responded in the second, tying the game on a power play goal by Darryl Bootland at 8:05 before taking a 2-1 lead on a strike by Luke Salazar at 10:53. The Eagles had the advantage in shots on net once again in the middle period, outshooting South Carolina 13-9.

In the third, Colorado’s Matt Register made it 3-1 with his third goal of the year at 4:48 before Sergei Boikov put the fourth Eagle goal on the board during a power play with his first career tally at 10:15.

Flick scored his second in as many games for the Stingrays with just six seconds remaining in the contest to make it 4-2. Federico earned the assist on the play, his second helper of the year.

South Carolina outshot Colorado 16-6 in the final frame and had the edge in shots on goal in the contest, 34-30.

Colorado converted on two of its four power plays on the night, while the Stingrays went 0-for-5 with the man-advantage. Lieuwen made 32 saves in the contest to earn the victory for the Eagles.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum at 7:05 p.m. before facing off a third time in four days Sunday at 3:05 p.m.
