The South Carolina Stingrays, proud affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Washington Capitals, have announced Saturday that team captain Joe Devin will return after being released from a professional tryout agreement with the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League (AHL).

In a separate transaction, the Stingrays have released defenseman Nick Neville from his standard professional contract.

Devin played in 17 games with the Monsters since signing with the team on Feb. 2 and had one goal and one assist for two points to go along with two penalty minutes. It was the forward’s second stint with the team as Devin also appeared in 16 games for the Monsters last season, scoring seven points on five goals and two assists.

The Scituate, Mass. native is in his third year with South Carolina and has 23 points (11 goals, 12 assists) through 37 games with the Rays this season. The loan agreement was the second AHL deal Devin had signed this season as the forward also spent time with the San Antonio Rampage in November, playing in three games.

During the 2015-16 season with the Stingrays, Devin had 41 points (18 goals, 23 assists) during 55 regular season games before putting up 16 points (10 goals, six assists) in 18 postseason games in the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Before turning pro, Devin played four years at Cornell University from 2007-11. The forward suited up for 116 games with the Big Red, scoring 64 points (37 goals, 27 assists) while helping to lead the squad to NCAA Tournament appearances in 2009 and 2010. He also served as captain of the team during the 2010-11 season.

Neville appeared in 18 games with the Stingrays this season after signing with the team during early October, registering two assists and two penalty minutes. The defenseman is in his rookie professional season after playing collegiately at the University of Denver from 2013-16.

Devin joins the Stingrays in time for Saturday’s game against Greenville, which takes place at the North Charleston Coliseum at 7:05 p.m.
